a divine comedy
You've accepted the horrors of this city. Old Ones dwell in the sewers, brought low before whatever gods run this town. Flooded basements retain their ghosts and imbue them with malevolence, everything is haunted, creatures that ever inspired fear in anyone is HERE, packed away into the corners to slip out and hunt you when you least expect it.
You come across a scene and despite your acceptance of the nature of the town, it still strains your mind and will. A pair of lovers, caught in the jaws of some horrible beast, screaming and crying mercy of the citys creator. In and of itself, a normal thing, for this place.
But the laughter...the uniquely empty laughter that echoes through the woods and alleyways, pinging off the buildings and cars, originating from the scene...that rends at you. It sounds canned. It sounds dead.
The empty echoes of the gods laughter at the many terrors wrought on the city is not a 10th of what you know its full terrible might must be, and it rends at your shredded mind still.
You wish it would render you senseless and end your terror.
