Ghost Train
You missed the last train home and you fear you will have to wait at the station until morning. It's already dark and the cold November mist is creeping in from the surrounding fields, twisting and distorting making shadowy figures appear along the tracks.
You walk over to the coffee machine in the corner and insert a few coins, pushing the button you watch as a steaming hot coffee quickly pours into the paper cup below, that should warm you up a bit. You blow gently on the drink and take your first greedy sip. URGH! immediately you spit it back into the cup and eye it suspiciously, the coffee tastes vile, the milk is probably off you decide and sit back down by the window still clutching the cup for warmth.
You stair gloomily into the mist and imagine what you could be doing if you were at home now.
Almost out of no where you hear the chuffing of a train coming in to the station. You jump up and run out on to the platform and wait for it to pull up.
That's weird, the lights are pale blue and seem to flicker as it approaches. The brakes sequel as it finally comes to a halt and without hesitating you climb aboard.
The door slides shut behind you and you feel the train lurch forwards before you have chance to find a seat.
Weird you think, you did't see a conductor get off, maybe the doors are electronic?
There is a shrill whistle as the train leaves the station and you open the door to the first carriage. It looks deserted. The interior is lit by the same pale blue lights which cast an eerie glow and make the already cold night even colder on board. You walk down the isle and pick a window seat in the middle of the carriage but as you look out, the darkness makes it impossible to see anything at all.
You wish there was someone to ask about the trains destination but you feel a shiver run down your spine at the thought of leaving your carriage. Something tells you to stay put, a deep nagging in your subconscious tells you it's safer where you are.
"Safer?" you whisper aloud to yourself. The sound of your own voice is comforting but still a primal fear creeps over you as you hear footsteps outside your carriage and the door slide open. You shrink down in your seat desperately wishing you had waited at the station.
You fix your eyes out of the black window and listen to the footsteps come closer. Perhaps you could try hiding under the table. Your heart is beating fast but you are too frozen with fear to move. Time is running out, you are about to be discovered.... You promise yourself this is the last train you will ever get on ...oh how right you are.
