Heart of the Forest
The Wolf Matron lives in the heart of the Forest That Is a Mountain, and her protection of her Pilfered Young only extends so far beyond it. If they leave that protection, it's considered their own fault if they manage to die despite the supernatural toughness, immunity to poison, and the means to climb or fly if their species couldn't already that surviving the Wolf Matron's milk gives them. Even so, many older members of the Thousand Pilfered Young find the risk worth it to get away from the Wolf Matron (who is temperamental and manipulative), each other (who often learn to model their abductive mother's cruel habits), or both.
