The Backrooms Ambiance
Enhance your luminal spaces with the constant loud hum of artificial lighting. Just when you think your brain can't take anymore of the constant buzz, are those footsteps you hear? Is someone shuffling near? No...no, it's just your mind wishing for companionship as your own footsteps somehow echo off the heavily wallpapered halls and muffled carpeting.
You feel like you've been walking forever. Minutes turn to hours turn to days, or so you think. Time has no meaning as every room you pass is the same as the last. You nearly jump out of your skin as you hear knocking in the walls, light tapping. Is it a person on the other side? The logical part of your brain pushes the idea away. There are no people here. Judging by the smell of long-moist carpeting, it's merely faulty pipes.
Your legs no longer want to carry you forward, but still you press on. More yellow wallpaper, more yellow carpeting, more humming from the yellow lighting. A scream of pure agony sounds out, breaking up the neutral monotony, but on the edge of it...you could almost hear laughter? Crying? Perhaps both. Your face feels moist, your body jerking and convulsing. The scream was you...a smile stretching from ear to ear as tears fall, but you just can't stop laughing. You scream again and it only makes you laugh more. Your tears soak into the moist carpet.
The last thing you remember is the sight of a room in manilla colors as you leave your body, leaving naught but a smile behind.
