The Forest That Is a Mountain
The Forest That Is a Mountain is a "special hell", but not for people who have committed the sorts of acts that phrase usually implies; it's a special hell for forgotten children. It doesn't matter how brief the lapse; if no-one else is thinking about them at a given moment, then the Fathers can Pilfer them away from their world to present them to the Wolf Matron. If they survive drinking her milk -- which only one in a thousand do -- whatever destiny they had before is stripped away, and replaced with a Numbered Fate which will determine what kind of demon they'll become when they and the other 999 members of the Wolf Matron's Thousand Pilfered Young are finally assembled before her and she dies. The Wolf Matron's bones and pelt will be fashioned into a new sapling to extend the boundary of the Forest, and the rest of her becomes the new Wolf Matron, ready to start the growth cycle all over again.
